No matter what the standard gangster wore in TELEVISION and movies, one colour a person’s swimsuit was not was strong black. Black was a coloration for mourning. The Twenties gangster sporting a black pinstripe swimsuit was one perpetuated by Hollywood in the Nineteen Forties and Fifties. Wealthy bootleggers and gangsters within the 1920s would have been impeccably dressed throughout the latest swimsuit fashions, imported from Europe, and tailor-made to a great match. These devils would have wished to point off their wealth and have a bigger than life picture perhaps to make the gangster life interesting to new recruits.
